The CNCF Kubernetes certifications are performance-based. There are no multiple-choice questions: you are dropped into a live cluster and given tasks to complete in a terminal, which makes them very different from vendor knowledge exams.
This test covers the ground CKA and CKAD share: cluster architecture, workloads and scheduling, services and networking, storage, and the troubleshooting workflow that carries the heaviest weight on the administrator exam.
CKA and CKAD each run two hours and require 66 percent to pass. CKS requires 67 percent and, unlike the other two, requires an active CKA before you can sit it. Each costs 395 USD and is valid for two years.
Time management decides these exams. Candidates who have not practised kubectl with aliases, imperative commands and fast context switching run out of time regardless of how well they understand Kubernetes conceptually.
