HP and HPE Certifications

HP's ExpertONE certification program used HP0 and HP2 exam codes across storage, server, networking, and sales tracks. Hewlett-Packard split into HP Inc. and Hewlett Packard Enterprise on November 1, 2015, and the enterprise certification program went to HPE. This guide covers what those retired credentials were and where the paths lead now.

The HP ExpertONE Program

HP ExpertONE was the umbrella certification program covering HP's enterprise portfolio. It used tiered credentials including AIS, ASE and Master ASE for technical roles, alongside ATP and sales-focused certifications. Exam codes followed a prefix pattern: HP0 for proctored technical exams and HP2 for web-based exams, many of them sales oriented.

Within that structure, code families mapped to product areas. HP0-J codes covered storage, HP0-S covered servers, and HP0-Y covered networking.

The 2015 HP and HPE Split

Hewlett-Packard separated into two companies on November 1, 2015. HP Inc. took printing and personal systems; Hewlett Packard Enterprise took servers, storage, networking and services, and with them the enterprise certification program.

The split is the main reason older HP credentials are difficult to trace. Certifications tied to product lines that were discontinued or rebranded were retired, and the original ExpertONE exam documentation was not carried forward into HPE's current certification site.

How HP Handled Certification Changes

HP did sometimes migrate holders automatically. An archived ExpertONE page documents that the HP ASE Server Solutions Integrator V8 certification was replaced by a streamlined V8.1, with adjusted prerequisites, and states that holders of the V8 version were automatically granted the new V8.1 certification.

That pattern was not universal, and most ExpertONE credentials from this era simply lapsed as their product portfolios were retired.

Where the Path Leads Today

HPE currently runs ASE and Master ASE tracks organised around present-day portfolios, including compute solutions and edge-to-cloud architecture. There is no conversion or credit from a retired ExpertONE credential to a current HPE certification.

Because HPE's certification catalogue changes and its pages are dynamically generated, verify any current track, exam code and requirement directly with HPE before committing to a study plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are old HP0 and HP2 certifications still valid?

No. The HP ExpertONE exams using HP0 and HP2 codes are retired and can no longer be taken. Unlike some vendors, HPE does not publish a consolidated retired-exams document with dates and replacements, so verifying a specific exam's status usually means checking HPE's current certification catalogue for the equivalent track rather than looking up the old code.

What is the difference between HP0 and HP2 exam codes?

Based on HP's own surviving exam datacards, HP0 codes were generally proctored technical exams within the AIS, ASE and Master ASE tiers, while HP2 codes were web-based exams often used for sales and ATP-tier credentials. For example HP's datacard for HP2-K38 describes a web-based exam aimed at channel partners and sales representatives.

What happened to HP certifications after the HP and HPE split?

Hewlett-Packard separated into HP Inc. and Hewlett Packard Enterprise on November 1, 2015. Enterprise infrastructure certification moved to HPE, which now runs ASE and Master ASE tracks such as HPE Master ASE Compute Solutions and HPE Master ASE Edge-to-Cloud Architect. Credentials tied to the older ExpertONE product portfolios were retired rather than carried across.

Why is it hard to find details about old HP exams?

HP's original ExpertONE exam pages are no longer published, and HPE does not maintain a public archive of them. Many third-party sites list exam names and details for these codes, but those listings are frequently inaccurate. Where this guide states exam specifics, they come from HP's own archived exam datacards; where they do not survive, the pages say so rather than repeat unverified claims.
